BioREDD (Chemonics)

Chemonics International, OPTIM, and Fundacion Natura

The BIOREDD+ program in Colombia began in 2011. It was funded by USAID and led by Chemonics International, OPTIM, and Fundacion Natura. Overall, the project invested $27.8 million USD in biodiversity, climate change mitigation (REDD) activities, and climate change adaptation in the Choco and Caribbean regions.

Our Involvement

The primary goal of this program was the establishment of at least eight financed REDD+ projects in the pacific region, covering a combined one million hectares. The program also provided a carbon baseline for the pacific and amazon regions and supported Colombia’s regional REDD+ program.

Outcome

Ostrom Climate partnered with ClearSky Climate Solutions LLC and EcoPartners LLC to develop project documentation for the program and provide technical guidance for the project proponents towards validation to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate Community and Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA) standard.
