Our Involvement
Ostrom Climate reviewed more than 100 references from around the world including the “United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)”, the “United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”, the IFC’s “Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability”, and the World Bank’s “Climate & Disaster Risk Screening Tools”. Strategies and recommendations from these references were distilled down to a manageable and user-friendly list of best practices, and a succinct benchmarking matrix that included criteria for evaluating topics such as stakeholder engagement, GHG monitoring and reporting, and carbon reduction initiatives.
Outcome
Ostrom Climate evaluated the client’s performance using the benchmarking matrix and assigned a level of achievement for each best practice (i.e., Level I – achieved, Level II – excellence, Level III – industry leader). The scorecard for each mine was used to improve carbon management practices at the sites.
