Our Involvement
Ostrom Climate partnered with Ballard to quantify their organization’s corporate GHG emissions in Canada and Europe from 2017 – 2020. By calculating emissions for their administrative, R&D, and manufacturing facilities, Ostrom Climate enabled them to better understand how their various operations affect their overall carbon footprint. We also completed a benchmarking exercise comparing their emissions intensities to other companies in their sector and large technology firms, to further pinpoint areas for a focused effort on reductions.
Outcome
Once corporate emissions had been calculated, Ballard was able to target their largest sources of GHGs. Ostrom Climate assisted with identifying significant opportunities for reductions, and Ballard was able to decrease their emissions per employee by 25% from 2019 to 2020. Ballard has set a goal of being carbon neutral by 2030. They offset 15% of their 2020 emissions and have committed to increasing their offset purchases each year until all unavoidable emissions are offset by 2030.
