Carbon Intelligence Services
Emissions associated with land use, land-use change, and forestry (LULUCF) have contributed to an estimated 23% of total human-produced greenhouse gas emissions from 2007-20161. Ostrom Climate’s team has expertise in bringing effective land-use projects to fruition.
Improved Forest Management
IFM projects result from changes in current land management to improved approaches that result in more carbon stored on the landscape and enable forests to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Projects can include full protection of forests as well as extended age rotation, selected harvesting, among many other approaches to improve forest health and result in more carbon stored on the landscape.
Our forest team has designed and implemented numerous IFM projects across North America to support changes in forest management that generate new revenue streams for indigenous communities and private landowners. From feasibility study to full project development and monetization of verified carbon offsets, our team provides support to project proponents to ensure projects are technically and economically viable.
REDD
Ostrom Climate is a recognized leader in the design and implementation of Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation programmes (REDD), with a split focus between voluntary /nested projects and jurisdictional programs. Our team has expertise in all elements of REDD design, from the implementation of Free Prior and Informed Consent processes to the establishment of regional deforestation reference levels to the structuring of multi-partner benefit-sharing agreements. Our unique focus is on the development of on-the-ground project activities that effectively transform land use sustainably and equitably.
Restoration
Blue Carbon
Ostrom Climate has expertise in the characterization of carbon stocks and flows embedded in blue carbon ecosystems such as mangroves, salt marshes, eelgrasses, and seaweeds. We are currently collecting data to support the development of a blue carbon protocol that will lead to blue carbon projects established on the West Coast of BC.
If you are looking to develop a Land Use Project, please contact Domestic Land Use (for North American projects) or International Land Use (for projects outside of North America).
Climate-Smart Agriculture
Ostrom Climate is an emerging leader in the Climate-Smart Agriculture space, with a strong focus on sustainable rice cultivation.
Our team specializes in Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) which is a Climate-Smart Agriculture technique that impacts efforts to mitigate climate change within the rice cultivation sector, a notable source of global methane emissions. We have experience in all aspects of the project development process, from the pre-feasibility stage, all the way through to the full implementation of a project.
